The new TerraSIRch SIR-3000 system

Many different radar systems are available, each having advantages and disadvantages. For general surveying Sandberg favour the GSSI TerraSIRch SIR-3000 system. This system has only, very recently, been made available to commercial purchase by Geophysical Survey Systems, Inc. (GSSI). Sandberg were one of the first to purchase and commercially use the TerraSIRch SIR-3000 in the UK.

Using the TerraSIRch SIR-3000 system in conjunction with the latest processing software to enables 3D models of the investigation results to be constructed. The 3D format means a subsurface object/target can be viewed (and reviewed) from different depths and grid locations from the investigation site.

There are many advantages of the GSSI TerraSIRch SIR-3000 system over slower, older GPR systems, these include:

  • The system is water resistant, lightweight, small and easy to transport. This allows quick, effective investigations in areas within a limited space or amount of time.
  • The system has a single, dedicated data transfer channel. This means faster data collection and reduced investigation time.
  • Internal sealed battery compartment using long life removable rechargeable batteries.
  • The first to incorporate a full-colour transflective display screen for clear, easy to read data images.
  • Data stored on internal hard drive or on removable Compact Flash data memory allowing quick and easy data transfer to PC for analysis.
  • The system has a multi-antennae function. This allows a multi-frequency investigation to be undertaken with minimum of survey time disruption.
  • Battery power lasts for the duration of the complete investigation. However, for longer investigations the batteries can be replaced ‘hot’ to continue for as long as required.
  • The possibility of GPS data integration is available. This enables any subsurface target to be spatially determined for future reference.
